Today, we at Discover Music FM join millions around the world in mourning the loss of a true rock icon, Ozzy Osbourne. Often hailed as the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy was more than just a symbol of heavy metal. He was a force of musical nature, a visionary performer, a master of theatricality, and above all, a deeply talented and passionate artist.

Born in Birmingham, England, Ozzy’s journey began in the working-class heart of the industrial Midlands, a place that would go on to forge not only steel but the very sound of heavy metal. In 1968, alongside Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, he co-founded Black Sabbath, and nothing in music would ever be the same again.

From the haunting self-titled debut Black Sabbath (1970) to the genre-defining Paranoid (1970), the darkly psychedelic Master of Reality (1971), and the riff-heavy brilliance of Vol. 4 (1972), Black Sabbath crafted the blueprint for what would become heavy metal. Ozzy’s chilling vocals and magnetic presence made every record unforgettable.

Further masterpieces followed:

  • Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973)
  • Sabotage (1975)
  • Technical Ecstasy (1976)
  • Never Say Die! (1978)

Though often portrayed by the media as a dark and dangerous figure, in truth, Ozzy was a profoundly creative soul. Behind the wild image was a man who brought deep emotion, vulnerability, and storytelling to his music. His voice carried rage, sorrow, mystery, and power all at once.

After parting ways with Black Sabbath, Ozzy’s solo career reached legendary heights with albums like Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman, giving us timeless anthems such as “Crazy Train” and “Mr. Crowley.” Even amid his massive solo success, fans and collectors never stopped spinning those early Sabbath vinyls. We had only just brought them back onto the office speakers at Discover Music FM in tribute to the timelessness of his artistry.

Ozzy Osbourne was never just a singer. He was the sound, the vision, and the spirit of an era. He was heavy metal’s beating heart and mischievous grin. He was a showman, a poet, and, despite the myths, a man of deep sensitivity and tremendous originality.

We salute the legend.
We thank the voice that defined a generation.
We mourn the man, but celebrate the music that will never die.

RIP Ozzy Osbourne
May you rock on forever
With love and respect from all of us at Discover Music FM
